MUHLENBERG IJCU TO SPONSOR PRE-LENTEN WORKSHOP

The Muhlenberg College Institute for Jewish-Christian Understanding (IJCU) will sponsor a pre-Lenten workshop Thursday, February 7, 2002, 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m., in the Miller Forum, Moyer Hall. The registration fee is $35; $40 with Continuing Education credit of .5 CEU (5 hours). Lunch is included in the fee. The workshop, "Learning from Repentance in Judaism: Liturgy, Thought and Practice," will be led by Rabbi Dr. Michael A. Signer, Abrams Professor of Jewish Thought and Culture at the University of Notre Dame, where he is co-director of the Notre Dame Holocaust Project. A veteran of interfaith dialogue for more than 25 years, Rabbi Signer specializes in the mutual influences of Jewish and Christian Bible interpretation in the high Middle Ages. He is one of the authors of the groundbreaking Jewish statement on Christians and Christianity, "Dabru Emet" (2000), and is an editor and author of the companion volume, "Christianity in Jewish Terms."

For 18 years, Rabbi Signer was on the faculty of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles. Since 1987, he has been a regular faculty member of the summer program of the Berlin Institute for the Church and Judaism (Institut Kirche und Judentum).
