Muhlenberg College Announces Faculty Promotions

Muhlenberg College is pleased to announce the following faculty promotions, approved at last week’s meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Muhlenberg College is pleased to announce the following faculty promotions, approved at last week’s meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Theodore A. Conner has been granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of music. Conner earned his B.A. at Johns Hopkins University, his B.M. at the New England Conservatory, his M.M. at the University of Michigan and his Ph.D. at the University of Connecticut. He joined the Muhlenberg faculty in 1997.

Hemchand Gossai, associate professor of religion, has been granted tenure. Gossai earned his B.A. at Concordia College, his M.Div. at the Luther Theological Seminary and his Ph.D. at the University of St. Andrews – Scotland. He joined the Muhlenberg faculty in 2000.

Christopher W. Herrick has been promoted to professor of political science. Herrick is director of the international studies program and co-director of the history/government program and political economy program. He earned his B.A. at Bates College, his M.A. at the University of New Hampshire and his Ph.D. at the University of South Carolina. Herrick joined the Muhlenberg faculty in 1983.

Erika M. Sutherland has been granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of Spanish. Sutherland earned her B.A. at Bryn Mawr College and her M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania. She joined the Muhlenberg faculty in 1995.

Alan Tjeltveit has been promoted to professor of psychology. Tjeltveit earned his B.A. at St. Olaf College and his M.A. and Ph.D. at Fuller Theological Seminary. He joined the Muhlenberg faculty in 1989.

Kathryn A. Wixon has been promoted to professor of French. Wixon earned her B.A. at the University of Michigan, her M.A. at Middlebury College and her Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina. She joined the Muhlenberg faculty in 1986.

Founded in 1848, Muhlenberg College is a highly selective liberal arts college in Allentown, Pa. It is an independent, undergraduate, co-educational institution related to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
