Under the direction of Gerry Whartenby, associate director of the Muhlenberg College Institute of Entrepreneurship, the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) chapter at Muhlenberg College won first place in its division at the annual competition last week.

The club presented its efforts in bringing entrepreneurship education to area high school students through its EUREKA! inventions program. Funded by grants from the Digital District, Sylvia Perkins Foundation, Windmill Foundation and Just Born, EUREKA! established teams of high school students led by Muhlenberg SIFE club members, allowing local students to work at area businesses on invention projects. This summer, the EUREKA! project will provide a workshop to train 12 area high school teachers on topics of entrepreneurship.

Another outreach effort has been the development of supporting materials for Boy Scout and Girl Scout programs. The SIFE team has revised the Entrepreneurship Merit Badge Workbook used by the Muhlenberg Institute of Entrepreneurship at National Scout Jamborees. SIFE also provided the workbook and training suggestions to local Boy and Girl Scout troops. The SIFE members will offer their instructional assistance during a week-long Entrepreneurship Camp to take place at the Musser Scout Reservation this summer.
