The Muhlenberg Dancers received rave reviews for their two performances at the recent four-day Northeast American College Dance Festival (ACDF) held at the University of Buffalo. Thirty-four schools from the northeast region participated.

The Muhlenberg Dancers presented two works choreographed by senior dance majors: Julie Danton’s “Rubbish Overrunneth” and Bree Troise’s “Sonata in Black Flats.” These works were among 54 pieces performed for blind adjudication by a panel of nationally-noted professionals. The adjudicators do not know which schools are represented by the pieces or if the pieces have been choreographed by faculty, undergraduate or graduate students. Both Muhlenberg pieces received rave reviews.

“Rubbish Overrunneth” was one of only nine dances selected for the Gala Concert, at which Muhlenberg was the only liberal arts school represented at this Gala concert.

Dance faculty Karen Dearborn and Jennifer Kayle accompanied 28 Muhlenberg Dancers to the 2003 regional ACDF. Kayle presented her choreography in an informal concert, and both Dearborn and Kayle taught classes at the festival. Dearborn was recently elected by her peers at member institutions to serve a three-year term on the National Board of Directors of the American College Dance Festival Association.

Last year, Muhlenberg College hosted the regional festival, where the Muhlenberg’s dance work “Black Raspberry” was selected to perform in the biennial ACDF National Festival.
