Muhlenberg College’s Martin Art Gallery will present “Robert Forman: Thread Paintings,” opening September 24 with an opening reception 5-7 p.m.; the artist will speak at 6 p.m. The exhibition will run through October 25. Gallery hours are Wednesday-Saturday, 12 noon-9 p.m. Admission to the gallery and reception is free.

An artist who transforms textiles into images, Robert Forman paints with thread. His work has been the subject of numerous museum exhibitions, publications, and presentations. The Martin hosts a solo exhibition featuring his new work with an exhibition catalogue essay by Dr. Jill Hoffman of Southwest Texas University.

“The multiplicity of imagery, layers, colors, form, pattern, faces and places appears at first to be a dizzying plane of visual cacophony,” writes Hoffman. “But under his skilled hand, images and ideas emerge, coming into focus and inviting the viewer to look and linger. He is able to translate experiences, people, memories, travels, and his emotional life into a collage of color, texture, and form.”
