Pulitzer Prizewinner To Discuss Sustainability At Muhlenberg College

Tom Hylton, chairman of the Pottstown Planning Commission, will present "Planning for Sustainable Communities," a slideshow and discussion on land use in Pennsylvania, at Muhlenberg College, Monday, October 20, 7 p.m., in Miller Forum, Moyer Hall. The program is free and open to the public. Hylton is the author of "Save Our Land, Save Our Towns," first published in 1995 as a plea for comprehensive planning for sustainable communities and land use. He is also the host of an hour-long PBS documentary of the same name, which first aired on Pennsylvania PBS stations and more than 100 stations nationwide since. His editorials advocating the preservation of farmland and open space in southeastern Pennsylvania, written for the Pottstown Mercury, won a Pulitzer Prize in 1990. Hylton's appearance at Muhlenberg is co-sponsored by the Muhlenberg College Center for Ethics as part of its fall series, Sustainable Communities: Balancing Economy, Ecology and Justice, and the Public Engagement Project.
