Univ. Of Tennessee Professor To Present “Professionalism & Ethics In Science” At Muhlenberg

Jeffrey Kovac, Ph.D., will present a lecture titled “Professionalism and Ethics in Science” at Muhlenberg College, Tuesday, March 18, 7 p.m., in the Hoffman House, 325 N. 23rd Street, Allentown. The lecture is sponsored by the Muhlenberg College Center for Ethics as part of its spring series, “Ethics and the Professions.” All events in the series are free and open to the public.

Kovac is professor of chemistry and director of undergraduate studies at the University of Tennessee, where he is a fellow of the Center for Applied and Professional Ethics in the department of philosophy. He is the author of more than 70 publications including “The Ethical Chemist” and “Scientific Ethics for High School Students.” In his presentation, Kovac will look at science as a profession and describe the moral ideal, the internal and external bargains and the code of ethics that derives from them.

“Ethics and the Professions” will continue Tuesday, March 25, 7 p.m., when Brian Martin, Ph.D., will lecture on “Ethics and Whistleblowing” in Seegers Union 109-110. Don Gotterbarn, Ph.D., will present “Ethics and Information Technology,” Wednesday, April 2, at 7 p.m. in the Hoffman House.
