Frank McVeigh, emeritus professor of sociology at Muhlenberg College, and Loreen Wolfer, associate professor of sociology/criminal justice at the University of Scranton, are co-authors of “Brief History of Social Problems: A Critical Thinking Approach,” published by the University Press of America, Inc.

“Brief History of Social Problems” takes a historical approach to examine the causes and conflicts between ten major social problems that have existed for nearly 230 years. Using a critical thinking perspective of the history, sociology, politics and economics of the period, the authors analyze social problems as a series of conflicts between those with power and those who were at one time virtually powerless.

McVeigh holds a doctorate in Sociology from St. John’s University, New York and a master’s in social work from Marywood College, Scranton, Pennsylvania. He taught at Muhlenberg College from 1966 – 1999.

Wolfer holds a Ph.D in Sociology from Cornell University.
