Members of the Muhlenberg faculty, who have formed a research group to explore the cutting-edge academic field of performance studies, will share their work and lead a discussion about performance studies of magic on Wednesday, October 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Miller Forum, Moyer Hall. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required and are available at the Muhlenberg College Box Office.

Through participation in The Theory and Art of Magic programs, members of the research group recognized that performances of magic are an extremely thought-provoking, under-explored subset of human performances. Members of the research group are writing essays for a performance studies book on magic. The book highlights the scholarship that has arisen from the productive confluence between Performance Studies and The Theory and Art of Magic.

In this presentation and discussion the group will share their insights on the performance studies of magic. Recognized as among the finest teachers and mentors at the College, the participants will be: Peter Bredlau (College Chaplain), Dr. Francesca Coppa (English), Prof. Karen Dearborn (Dance), Dr. Mary Lawlor (English), Dr. Jim Peck (Theatre Arts), Dr. Beth Schachter (Theatre Arts), and Dr. Susan Schwartz (Religion).
