Dawn Markley, a junior at Muhlenberg College, has been selected to participate in the International Mission on Diplomacy in Australia from May 14-25, 2004. Markley will join 80 college and university students from throughout the United States to explore the inner workings of international affairs in Australia, discussing current issues affecting the diplomatic community.

A resident of Kimberton, Pa., Markley is majoring in political science with a minor in accounting. She is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Steven R. Markley.

As a participant in the International Mission, Markley will witness the effect economic considerations have on Australia's national and international diplomatic decisions. The group also will examine Australia's vital economic and diplomatic role in the Asia-Pacific region.
In addition to receiving a backstage pass to the Australian Parliament House, meting with U.S. Embassy diplomats in Canberra and examining strategic issues in foreign policy, Markley and other participants will have the distinct honor of meeting with members of Australia's largest Aboriginal community to discover the diplomatic lessons of the 50,000-year-old indigenous society

By focusing on hands-on education, the Envision Institute, which sponsors the International Mission program, provides students with the skills and resources necessary for success in our constantly changing world.
