Deborah Horan will visit Muhlenberg College from September 27 – October 1, 2004 as the Woodrow Wilson Foundation’s Visiting Fellow.

Horan is a journalist and Middle East correspondent who currently reports in Iraq for the Chicago Tribune. She has spent the past decade covering major developments of the Israeli-Palestinian conflicts and other Middle Eastern countries as the Jerusalem-based correspondent for the Houston Chronicle and the San Francisco Chronicle. She was a journalism fellow at the University of Michigan and has written for magazines such as Newsweek, the Washington Monthly, Progressive Woman and Psychology Today. In 1999, she was chosen as a finalist for the Livingston Award for outstanding young journalists, and her work has been chosen for submission to the Pulitzer board. Her areas of expertise include US foreign and economic policy regarding the Middle East, Middle East politics and Arab media.

Horan’s lecture will be held on September 29, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. in Moyer Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow comes to campus for a full week, visiting classes, meeting with students and faculty, and giving a public lecture. As professionals working in business, journalism and non-profit organizations, their visits help to show the relevance of a liberal arts education to the world beyond campus.
