Muhlenberg College will present the final major stage performance in The Theory and Art of Magic 2004 series, Wednesday, November 17, 8 p.m., Empie Theatre, Baker Center for the Arts. Tickets for this performance are $20.

“The Modern Mystics” features Luna Shemada and Losander, a duo who astounds audiences with their unique brand of magic, animation and levitation.

On Thursday, November 18, Shemada and Losander will deliver a performance-talk in the Miller Forum on the theory and art of magic, entitled “MagicCraft, The Creative Process.” Tickets for this performance are $5.

Luna Shemada is an unmistakable, exotic, highly acclaimed presence in contemporary magic. As the daughter of legendary Japanese magician Shimada, Luna began her illustrious career in magic at the age of eight when she began to travel around the world with her father. Performing across four continents, Luna has been the star of productions in Las Vegas, Hollywood, Tokyo and Berlin.

She has been featured many times on American network specials such as The Art of Magic (PBS), Mysteries of Magic and Magic’s Greatest Illusions (TLC), and Grand Illusions, The Story of Magic (Discovery Channel). She also has become well-known as an eloquent spokesperson on magic, and the experience of women in the art. Luna writes a column for Genii magazine on these issues, entitled “Unanswered Questions.”

Losander is a celebrated master of the art of levitation and animation. The high demand for Losander’s magic is not surprising because he creates theatrical experiences that are distinctive in the history of the art. He has also performed his unbelievable art across three continents, from the finest variety theaters in Europe to the glittery showrooms of Las Vegas. In addition, Losander has also developed a reputation as a top corporate entertainer, with a list of clients including Nintendo, Mercedes Benz, Proctor & Gamble, VW Volkswagen and Royal Caribbean International.

Tickets for both performances are available at the Muhlenberg College Box Office, 484-664-3333.
