Muhlenberg College recently awarded the Class of 1932 Research Professorship to Dr. Douglas P. Ovens, of the music department.

Ovens has been a part of the College community since 1990. He is now a head of the music department. He received his B.M. magna cum laude from San Francisco State University in theory and composition and both his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Ovens directs the electronic music studio and conducts the Muhlenberg Chamber Orchestra.

The Class of 1932 Research Professorship entails releases time at full salary for up to one full academic year to focus on a project that meets the highest scholarly expectations and is oriented towards publication. The Professorship will be formally presented to Dr. Ovens at the Honors Convocation this spring preceding the year of the Professorship.
