Muhlenberg College Announces New Faculty

Muhlenberg College proudly announces its additions to the faculty for the academic year 2004 – 2005.

Muhlenberg College proudly announces its additions to the faculty for the academic year 2004 – 2005.

Ms. Sharon Albert, visiting lecturer in religion.

Mr. Charles Anderson, assistant professor of dance, received his B.A. in dance at Cornell University and his M.F.A. with honors from Temple University. While at Temple University, he specialized in choreography, African American dance aesthetics and history. Last year, he served as a guest artist-in-residence in the department of theatre & dance.

Mr. Edward Augustyn, visiting assistant professor of dance, comes to Muhlenberg from the University of Wyoming. He received a B.A. in anthropology/dance and ethnographic studies from Marlboro College and an M.F.A. in modern dance choreography and performance from Mills College.

Dr. Tracey Bowers, visiting assistant professor of mathematics, most recently served as a visiting assistant professor of mathematics at Moravian College. She received a B.S. in Engineering Physics, an M.S. and a Ph.D in mathematics from Lehigh University.

Ms. Susan Byrne, lecturer in education and director of student teaching.

Mr. Franklin Claire, visiting lecturer in business (fall semester only).

Ms. Kara Danielson, visiting lecturer in Spanish, joins us from Arcadia University where she taught in the foreign language department since 2001. She graduated magna cum laude from Colgate University and is expecting her Ph.D in Spanish from the University of Connecticut in August 2004.

Dr. Brett Fadem, assistant professor of physics, joins us from Colby College, where he taught for two years. He received a B.A. from Grinnell College and a Ph.D from Iowa State University.

Dr. Amy Thompson Hark, assistant professor of biology, most recently worked as a postdoctoral research associate in the department of biochemistry and molecular biology at Michigan State University. She previously taught in the biology department at Kalamazoo College. Hark attended the College of William and Mary, where she received a B.S. in biology. She received her M.A. and Ph.D in molecular biology from Princeton University.

Ms. Patricia Helm, assistant professor of music, joins us from Colby College. Helm attended Colorado College, where she studied music and received her M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Joseph Keane, assistant professor of chemistry, joins us from Colgate University. He graduated from Lycoming College with a B.S. in chemistry and a B.A. in philosophy. He received a Ph.D in chemistry from the University of Virginia. Mr. Peter Linder, entrepreneur in residence.

Mr. Larry McCabe, visiting lecturer in accounting (fall semester only).

Dr. Alan Preti, visiting assistant professor of philosophy, comes to Muhlenberg from St. Joseph’s University. He received a B.A. in music and an M.A. in philosophy from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. He received a Ph.D in philosophy from Temple University.

Dr. Kathryn Ranieri, visiting assistant professor of communication, received a B.A. in communication from Cedar Crest College and a M.A. in communication and Ed.D in Instructional Technology from Northern Illinois University.

Ms. Louise Shive, instructor of education, graduated cum laude from Muhlenberg with a B.S. in Chemistry and returned to the College for her certification in secondary education. She received an M.S. in analytical chemistry at Lehigh University and is currently enrolled in their doctoral program in curriculum and instruction.

Ms. Pamela Stilin, visiting lecturer in Spanish, has been an adjunct professor of Spanish at Muhlenberg since 1992, and has also taught at Cedar Crest College, Allentown College, Northampton Community College and Moravian College. She received a B.A. in Spanish and international studies with a minor in Latin American studies from the University of Wisconsin. She received an M.A. from the City University of New York, Queens College in Latin American studies with an emphasis in history and political science.

Dr. Amber VanDerwarker, visiting assistant professor of anthropology, joins us from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in anthropology and received her Ph.D from the University of North Carolina.
