Muhlenberg College Hillel has hired Alice Baum as the new director of programming, a position funded through a three-year grant from Hillel International, the Foundation for Jewish Campus Life.

During the next academic year, the organization will transition to the status of a Hillel Foundation.
“This distinction, a designation reserved for approximately 100 campuses worldwide, is a recognition not only of the size of our Jewish population but moreover the strength of our Hillel,” said Dr. Peyton R. Helm, President of Muhlenberg College. Baum’s hire is a key requirement of this transition.
“We are excited to bring Alice to Muhlenberg College. Her experience and background make her a great fit for our students and the entire community,” said Patti Mittleman, Jewish chaplain and director of Hillel at Muhlenberg College.

Baum is a graduate of McGill University, Montreal, Quebec and earned a masters in theological studies from Harvard Divinity School. She was previously employed as director of programming for the Vancouver Hillel Foundation.

“By awarding the grant to Muhlenberg College, Hillel International continues to validate the important work that Patti and others are doing here. This new position will enable us to expand our already excellent programming and increase opportunities for our students on and off campus,” said Helm.
Muhlenberg College Hillel serves over 600 students and has a strong relationship with the entire Jewish community in the Lehigh Valley. Hillel offers a wide variety of activities -social, religious, community service, cultural and educational - on a regular basis.
