Muhlenberg College will host the Middle Atlantic Council on Latin American Studies (MACLAS) conference, Friday-Saturday, February 20-21.
MACLAS is an interdisciplinary organization of Latin Americanists whose fields include topics such as history, literature, anthropology, sociology, economics and political science. In recent years, the conference has encouraged student scholarship by presenting graduate and undergraduate student work. This year, three Muhlenberg students will present their work at the conference. At least 75 members of the council are expected to attend this year's conference, which marks the 25th anniversary of the organization.

Muhlenberg faculty will moderate several of the sessions and panels. Topics include "History and Politics of the Southern Cone," "Culture and Politics in Latin American and the United States," "Latino Literature and Culture in the United States," "Political and Social Change in the MERCOSUR Region," "Intercultural Communication," "Women's Place in the Literary Canon" and "Latin America at the Movies," among others.

On Saturday morning, February 21, conference participants will have the opportunity to purchase handcrafted goods from Latin America through Ten Thousand Villages, with proceeds to benefit Allentown's Casa Guadalupe.
