Pianist Idil Biret To Perform At Muhlenberg College

Pianist Idil Biret will perform at Muhlenberg College on Friday, November 12 at 8 p.m. in the Empie Theater.

Pianist Idil Biret will perform at Muhlenberg College on Friday, November 12 at 8 p.m. in the Empie Theater. Tickets for general admission are $22 for adults and $16 for senior citizens. Biret will also present a bonus concert on Sunday, November 14 at 4 p.m. in the Empie Theater. Admission to this show is free to subscribers and tickets for non-subscribers are $10.00. Tickets can be purchased through the College’s music department, 484-664-3363.

In the first concert, Biret will play her interpretations of Chopin. Her Chopin recordings have received a grand Prix du Disque Chopin award in Poland and the Boulez recording the Golden Diapason of the Year award in France. Her bonus concert will feature her interpretations of several composers including Prokofiev Sergei and Igor Stavinski.

Idil Biret revealed an amazing gift for music at the age of three and was trained at the Paris Conservatory under the tutelage of Nadia Boulanger, graduating at the age of 15 with three prizes. She studied with Alfred Cortot and was a lifelong disciple of Wilhelm Kempff, who considered her his best student. She has given concerts throughout the world with major orchestras and conductors, including a series with the Boston Symphony under Erich Leinsdorf.

Over the years Idil Biret has made more then seventy recordings, including the world premier recording of the nine Beethoven symphonies transcribed by Lizst, and complete solos piano works and concertos of Chopin, Brahms, Rachmaninov and three piano sonatas of Pierre Boulez.
