Beginning in September of 2004, Muhlenberg College will kick off the third series of its nationally recognized, award-winning program, The Theory and Art of Magic.

The Theory and Art of Magic is a distinctive, scholarly celebration of the magical arts.

Created by Dr. Lawrence Hass, philosopher, magician and associate professor of philosophy for at Muhlenberg, The Theory and Art of Magic program is the first on-going symposium of the magical arts. At the heart of the program is a series of visits to the College by world-class magicians and theorists who perform astonishing magic, teach classes, and give philosophical talks on the nature of magic as an important human experience and as a performing art. In conjunction with these "magicians-in-residence," the College offers courses that dovetail with the program, including a studio arts class on performance magic.

In selecting guests for The Theory and Art of Magic, Muhlenberg has always sought to honor master magicians and acclaimed teachers of the art. This fall, that tradition continues as we feature Eugene Burger, Topas of Germany, Juan Tamariz of Spain, Luna Shemada of Japan, Losander of Germany, Lee Siegel and Lawrence Hass. At one event, a number of Muhlnberg professors will presentation of their latest research on magic. There is also a showcase of student magic in January. The semester-long program opens Monday September 6 and runs through January of 2005.

Tickets to the event are now available through the College’s Box Office at 484-664-3333. For more information about the series, visit www.muhlenberg.edu/cultural/magic.
