Dr. Robert K. Musil to Speak on Global Climate Change

On September 9, Dr. Robert K. Musil, a specialist in global security, sustainability and health issues, will give a talk, “Hope for a Heated Planet: How We Can Stop Global Climate Change,” at 7 p.m. in Miller Forum, Moyer Hall.

 Thursday, September 4, 2008 11:22 AM

The lecture, part of the semester-long series, 2008: Politics Ethics and Citizenship, is co-sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow program and the College’s Center for Ethics.  This event is free and open to the public.

Musil teaches in American University’s School of International Studies in the Program on Global Environmental Politics and in the Nuclear Studies Institute.  He is the Visiting Scholar at the Churches’ Center for Theology and Public Policy, Wesley Theological Seminary.  In his work with Physicians for Social Responsibility as well as through other avenues, Musil organized educational and lobbying campaigns and led NGO delegations and coalitions on climate, toxic chemicals and nuclear weapons in Washington, at the United Nations, and at various international summits and negotiations.

He is former executive producer and host of the nationally syndicated radio program Consider the Alternatives and the author of numerous articles, as well as the forthcoming Hope for a Heated Planet:  How Americans are Fighting Global Warming and for a Better Future.

Musil will be on Muhlenberg’s campus from September 8 – 12, as a part of the Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow program.  Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellows connect a liberal education with the world beyond the campus by bringing thoughtful and successful practitioners to colleges for a week of discussions with students and faculty.   Fellows are scheduled for formal presentations in classrooms, panels, and public platforms, and informal encounters at meals, in student centers, clubs, dormitories, career counseling and individual sessions. The week-long visit allows Fellows to explicate their ideas fully and often leads to continuing ties.

The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation has developed and conducted programs in higher education since 1945. More than 200 colleges have participated in the Visiting Fellows program since 1973.

2008: Politics, Ethics and Citizenship is presented in cooperation with the Political Science Department’s Election Series and co-sponsored by the Lectures and Forums Committee, with assistance from the Departments of Art, Media & Communication and Theatre & Dance, and the Muhlenberg Activities Council and the Multicultural Center.
