Muhlenberg Student to Speak at Allentown Rally Against PROP 8

Muhlenberg student Adrian Shanker ’09 is scheduled to speak at Allentown’s rally against California’s Prop 8 on November 16 from 1 – 3 p.m. at Seventh and Hamilton Streets.

 Wednesday, November 12, 2008 11:22 AM

On November 4, California voters went to the polls and voted Prop 8 into law, banning same-sex marriage, a right previously granted in California.  This weekend, all across the nation, communities are organizing to defeat Prop 8 in 2010.

Shanker, a political science and religion double major at Muhlenberg College, is co-president of the College Democrats and the Gay Straight Alliance.  He has helped to organize many campus events, including appearances by Former President Bill Clinton, President-Elect Barack Obama and Vice-President-Elect Joe Biden.

Other speakers at the rally will include: Liz Bradbury, PA Diversity Network; Rev. Beth Goudy, MCCLV; and Rob Hopkins, PA Democratic Party LGBT Caucus and Greater Lehigh Valley Pride.

This event is organized by the PA Diversity Network and Metropolitan Community Church of the Lehigh Valley and is co-sponsored by Muhlenberg College Gay Straight Alliance, Pride of the Greater Lehigh Valley, PA Democratic Party LGBT Caucus, Lehigh Valley Rainbow Families, Interweave of UUCLV, Eastern Pennsylvania PFLAG, Panzee Press Magazine, Gay and Lesbian Organized Sports Society and Gentlemen of Berks and Beyond.
