"West End Oktoberfest" to Feature German Music, Vendors

With lively German music and a variety of activities for children and adults, the inaugural "West End Oktoberfest" on Saturday, October 4, noon to 8 p.m., will celebrate the age-old tradition amid a resurgent West End Theater District in Allentown.

The West End Oktoberfest will take place on 19th Street between Tilghman and Liberty Streets. It is being organized by the West End Alliance, an organization of neighbors and merchants dedicated to the continued revitalization of the 19th Street corridor and the surrounding neighborhood.

The event will line the sidewalks with local vendors, artists, merchants, food and fun. For authentic musical entertainment, The Lehigh Saengerbund, the traditional German-American Society of the Lehigh Valley, will give choral and band performances from 3 p.m. to 4:30. Other performers include a Sinatra-style crooner, a Muhlenberg College a capella group and a guitarist-vocalist.
Money raised from the event will support the efforts of the West End Alliance.
