GSA Hosts Screening of "Lesbian Teenagers in High School"

The Gay Straight Alliance will host a screening of the film Lesbian Teenagers in High School on Wednesday, January 28 from 7-8 p.m., in Miller Forum, Moyer Hall.

 Thursday, January 22, 2009 11:22 AM

The event, co-sponsored by the education department, is free and open to the public. A talk-back session will follow the screening.

Lesbian Teenagers in High School is a documentary about a racially diverse group of young women, ages 15-19, who identify as lesbian. Through interviews, they discuss their experiences with homophobia in relation to both teachers and students, and share their visions of a more tolerant, accepting educational environment.

Norah Salmon’s film honestly and clearly reveals the young women’s stories, allowing their personal voices to be heard. The film is a valuable resource to families, educators, and social workers as their difficult school experiences can be used as an educational tool for others.

Lesbian Teenagers in High School has been greatly received at over 20 national and international film festivals, including San Francisco’s International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, Brussels Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, and the Paris International Lesbian Film Festival.
