Muhlenberg Hosts Screening of "Goodbye Lenin!"

As a part of the year-long forum, The Legacy of 1989: Twenty Years in the Post-Communist World, Muhlenberg College will hold a screening of the film Goodbye Lenin! on Thursday, October 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall, Center for the Arts.

Dr. Franz A. Birgel, professor of German and film studies, will introduce the film and lead a brief discussion at its conclusion.  The screening and talk-back are free and open to the public. Goodbye Lenin is a Golden Globe nominated, German tragicomic film, released in 2003.  It takes place in 1990, and the protagonist, in order to protect his fragile mother from a fatal shock after a long coma, must keep her from learning that her beloved nation of East Germany as she knew it has disappeared.
