Performance Artist S. Bear Bergman to Appear at Muhlenberg College

S. Bear Bergman, an observant Jew, gender theorist, performance artist and a butch/queer/trans activist, will perform “Monday Night in Westerbork” on March 12, 2009 at 7 p.m. in Miller Forum, Moyer Hall.

The event is free and open to the public.

“Monday Night in Westerbork” explores Jewish and Queer understandings of the Holocaust. While it is not a traditional Holocaust narrative, it is an educating, interrogating, celebrating piece of theater including everything from a song-and-dance number to a prayer for the dead.

Bergman is the author of Butch Is a Noun (Suspect Thoughts Press, 2006) and three award-winning solo performances, as well as a frequent contributor to anthologies on all manner of topics. Bergman is also a frequent lecturer and at colleges and universities regarding issues relating to gender and sexuality, and has advised the staff of numerous institutions on their policies regarding transgendered and transsexual students.
