These digital stories, created by local youth, culminate an intensive one-month program exploration of community issues using new media, spoken word and social justice methods to help them raise their voices and have a positive impact on their community. This event includes a silent auction and is free and open to the public.

Now in its seventh year, HYPE is a community of practice supporting young people as they use digital media tools to raise their voices about community issues. Through documentary work, they creatively challenge the stereotype of young people as “problems” and raise awareness about the real social issues that impede their community’s health and well-being.
HYPE mobilizes young people to shift their identities from media consumers to media makers, and creates a critical framework for valuing youth voices within the community.
