Michael Huber Named Dean at Muhlenberg College

Michael Huber, Ph.D., has been named Dean of the College for Academic Life at Muhlenberg College.

Huber is currently an associate professor of mathematicsat the College.

Huber earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in physics/engineering from Loyola College in Baltimore.  He received his master’s degree in material science and engineering/electrochemistry from The Johns Hopkins University, and received a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in applied mathematics from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Ca.  Huber is a veteran of the U.S. Army.

In his capacity as Dean of the College for Academic Life, Huber will oversee the Academic Resource Center, the Office of Disability Services, the Career Center, Health Professions Advising and the Senior Year Experience.  He will also provide leadership for the College’s Prestigious Awards Initiative along with additional administrative duties.

Huber came to Muhlenberg in 2006 after a long and distinguished military career.  He rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel before retiring after 24 years.  He taught at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point from 1993 to 1996 and from 2000 to 2006.

At Muhlenberg, Huber earned the 2009 Robert C. Williams Faculty Research Award for outstanding scholarship and creative work.  He is the author of several books, including three on Sabermetrics, the science of baseball statistics.  He has also published dozens of academic articles and contributed and edited numerous book chapters.

“The Dean's position at Muhlenberg requires a rare combination of organizational skills, counseling sensitivity, and management savvy,” says President Randy Helm.  “I was impressed by the strengths of the four internal candidates who emerged from our faculty in the search for the next Dean, and particularly pleased by the Provost's selection of Mike Huber for this important post.”

Huber begins his term July 1.  He is replacing Dr. Carol Shiner Wilson, who is retiring after nearly 30 years of service at the College.

Huber and his wife Teresa have three children, including his youngest, Stephanie, a rising junior at the College.
