Professor Paula Irwin Given Spira Award
Irwin has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching and student appreciation, including Muhlenberg College’s Lindback Teaching Award and the Institute of Internal Auditors’ Outstanding Accounting Educator Award.

Paula Irwin, associate professor of accounting, has been recognized with the Ruth and Joe Spira Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Irwin is currently the College’s accounting program coordinator. She has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching and student appreciation, including Muhlenberg College’s Lindback Teaching Award and the Institute of Internal Auditors’ Outstanding Accounting Educator Award. In 2004 and 2011, Irwin spent semesters abroad, teaching at Maastricht University, through the Center for European Studies.
She received her B.S. from the Pennsylvania State University and her M.B.A. from Lehigh University. Prior to beginning her teaching career, Irwin worked for Ernst & Young, LLP, the Buckeye Pipeline Company and Kleinert’s, Inc. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
The Ruth and Joel Spira Award for Excellence in Teaching was established by Ruth and Joel Spira, cofounders of the Lutron Electronics Company. The prize is awarded annually to an individual faculty member who excels in teaching and inspiring students during the academic year.
