Hazing Transparency Report

In accordance with the Federal Stop Campus Hazing Act and the Pennsylvania Timothy J. Piazza Antihazing Law, Muhlenberg College provides the following Hazing Transparency Report. Reports of hazing that did not result in a finding of responsibility are not included.

    • Review the Muhlenberg College Anti-Hazing Policy and the Timothy J. Piazza Antihazing Law and create an educational session (inclusive of a PowerPoint presentation) answering questions set forth by the Director of Student Conduct
    • Schedule a time to facilitate this educational session with the Director of Student Conduct and the Women’s Basketball coach. This session should be facilitated by a minimum of three upperclass and two first year members of the Women's Basketball Team.

Description of Incident(s) 

Care for Others 1.a.iv. Hazing 

It was reported that on August 23, 2025 first year women’s basketball team members were asked to do planks while they sang the alphabet. An investigation was conducted by the College. As a result of the investigation, the Women’s Basketball Team was charged with the following alleged violation of the College’s Anti-Hazing Policy:

  • Care for Others 1.a.iv. Hazing - Knowingly or recklessly, for the purpose of initiating, admitting or affiliating a minor or student into or with a student organization, or for the purpose of continuing a student's membership or status in a student organization, causes or creates a risk of physical or psychological injury, or causes, coerces, forces or otherwise induces a student to perform calisthenics.

    • The chapter was required to work with Headquarters to re-evaluate their New Member Education experience, attend educational workshops assigned by Headquarters, and re-evaluate traditions, along with any additional sanctions required by Headquarters.

Care for Others 1.a.iv. - Hazing

It was reported that during the Fall 2021 semester, new members were instructed to line up outside in alphabetical order and then ring a doorbell when everyone was present before they entered Delta Zeta Chapter House; not allowed to go to parties related to Delta Zeta without text confirmation; and were yelled at during Delta Zeta new member education meetings. An investigation was conducted by the College. As a result of the investigation, Delta Zeta was charged with the following alleged violation of the College’s Anti-Hazing Policy:  

  • Care for Others 1.a.iv. - Hazing - Hazing as defined in the College's Anti-Hazing Policy
    • New members were instructed to line up outside in alphabetical order and then ring the doorbell when everyone was present before they entered Delta Zeta Chapter House during the 2021 Fall Semester. (Responsible)
