Alumni Weekend Celebrates Naming of Fahy Commons

A Message from President Harring to the Muhlenberg Community

Dear Members of the Muhlenberg Community,

This past weekend, over 1,000 Muhlenberg alumni spanning six decades gathered on our beautiful campus to reconnect and celebrate their alma mater. After months of careful planning and collaboration across multiple departments, the efforts of so many staff, faculty, and students made this weekend a resounding success.

As one of the highlights of the weekend, we unveiled the names of the donors whose generosity made possible two priorities of the Boundless campaign: our newest academic building, adjacent to Trexler Library, and the expansion of Seegers Union. Gerald P. Fahy ’79 and Cathleen A. Fahy made their historic $7.5 million gift in 2020, the largest personal pledge in College history, but chose to remain anonymous until now.

This weekend we were delighted to celebrate the Fahys with the announcement of the naming of the Fahy Commons. It will open later this year and will create a hub for public engagement, innovation, and creativity–providing a place not only for our students and faculty to come together to collaborate and grow, but also to connect the learning and knowledge happening on our campus to our city, our region, and our world. The Seegers Union expansion will support high-impact practices and experiential learning opportunities by providing space for career and professional development programs and advising. Read more about the Fahys and the Fahy Commons on the Muhlenberg news website.

The Fahy’s support is a strong vote of confidence for the future of the College — confidence that I saw shared and reflected by the many alumni I spoke with this weekend who expressed their enthusiasm for the College we are today.

Alumni Weekend would not have been possible without the dedication of so many faculty, staff, and students. Special thanks to the Advancement team, and Alumni Affairs, for creating such meaningful and enjoyable programming for our alumni and showcasing the transformative educational experience we provide to our outstanding students every day. My sincere thanks and appreciation for your efforts, and those of all of our faculty, staff, and students, in support of Muhlenberg this past weekend and every day.

Sincerely,

Kathleen Harring

President
