Self Toward Community
An individual walk of faith or exploration of ethics leads us to consider our communities and the roles we play in them all the more. RSL offers different avenues for students to engage in active community participation and the work of transformational justice through three distinct programs.
Alliances for Justice Active Leadership (AJAL) Series and Retreat
With AJAL, the Offices of Multicultural Life, Community Engagement, Religious & Spiritual Life welcome staff, faculty, and student leaders who would like to be part of positive change both on campus and off to create structures of positive change for all by way of connecting with collaborators, diving deep into solidarity and dialogue across difference, and mapping the assets of our community. A series of community building and foundations workshops take place in the Fall semester, followed by a three day, two-night retreat leading into the spring semester. The Fellowship for Interfaith Learning and Leadership (FILL)
FILL is a year-long cohort experience that kicks-off with both asynchronous and in-person learning through the Foundations of Interfaith Leadership course from Interfaith America and full participation in the Interfaith America Leadership Summit in August. Upon returning to campus, cohort participants meet weekly at times in the cohort for continued learning and program development and at times among other interested students through campus programming. Each cohort participant is expected to co-lead at least two unique events throughout the school year to build appreciative knowledge on campus, develop relationships, and leverage bridges social capital to impact attitudes.
The Muhlenberg Useful Living Essentials (MULE) Community Cabinet
Through the MULE Community Cabinet, students have agency to impact matters of food justice as student employees, volunteers, or donors as well as a valuable resource to utilize and share with community members who may need supplemental food, hygiene, or cleaning products to support their educational pursuits. Interested in working to address food insecurity on campus, locally, or nationally? Email [email protected] to learn more or reach out to the Office of Community Engagement to learn about opportunities to support local food justice initiatives.
