Creative writing students explore traditional and contemporary issues in creative writing and literature both on and off the page.

You’ll read and write varied genres spanning fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, plays, screenplays, criticism, journalism and more. Each semester, visiting writers offer specialty craft workshops. Every three years, our unique Living Writers course brings renowned writers to campus to teach and share their work. Recent authors include Neil Gaiman, Ada Limón, Marina Carr and Zadie Smith.

Many students study abroad for a semester or participate in short-term Muhlenberg Integrative Learning Abroad, or MILA, programs, with creative writing courses that have taken place in Italy, Ireland and the United States.

Closer to home, you can hone your skills by working as a tutor in the Writing Center or by assisting faculty in area schools or in the Lehigh County prison. Gain publication experience by submitting your work to Muses, a student-directed art and literary magazine, or The Muhlenberg Academic Review, a student-run, peer-reviewed academic journal.
