As a major in French & Francophone Studies, you can choose to take advanced courses taught exclusively in French, or you can take courses about the Francophone world in English. In all cases, our expert faculty emphasize communication and cultural understanding, allowing you to make connections to local and global communities while thinking critically in a second language.

You’ll enjoy dynamic opportunities to apply your studies in real-world settings thanks to language clubs, cultural events, service learning and more. Nearly all of Muhlenberg’s French & Francophone Studies students spend time in a French-speaking country, either via a semester abroad or shorter trips, known as Muhlenberg Integrative Learning Abroad (MILAs). MILAs typically run for two weeks and cap off a semester-long course that explores a theme or issue highlighted during the trip. Destinations for trips abroad include Aix-en-Provence, France; Nantes, France; Paris; Madagascar; Morocco; and Dakar, Senegal.
