Music Talent Scholarship Auditions

  • Music Talent Scholarships are available to any prospective first-year student regardless of intended college major/minor.
  • Talent scholarship recipients are required to contribute to the Department of Music by participating in a minimum of four courses and/or department ensembles during their time at Muhlenberg (excluding applied lessons). The balance between ensembles and academic courses may be tailored to the individual student's interests and strengths.
  • Music Talent Scholarships are renewable for four years. Grants will be automatically renewed provided that:
    • The student is in good academic and social standing.
    • The student upholds his/her/their commitment to departmental participation (see above).
  • To qualify for a Music Talent Scholarship, a prospective student must have a completed application on file with the Office of Admissions and must submit a virtual audition prior to the deadline. Auditions may be heard prior to submitting an application for admission but award notification will not be sent without an application on file. Notification of awards is made by the Office of Financial Aid no later than April 15.

Scheduling a Music Talent Scholarship Audition

On-campus Saturday Music Talent Scholarship Auditions are available for 2022-2023 school year on November 19, 2022, January 28, 2023 or February 4, 2023.  Additional on-campus auditions may be scheduled Monday – Friday during the academic year pending faculty availability. We strongly encourage on campus auditions, but will accept electronic submissions if that is not possible due to travel distance.

Please prepare two contrasting pieces that best demonstrate your performing abilities. An accompanist is available for on campus auditions; copies of music must be received no less than two weeks before the audition date. Instructions for submitting music will be included in the email notification of your audition time.

For virtual auditions, students are welcome to use recorded or live accompaniment.

      Additional Information for Vocal Auditions

  • It is recommended that one of your two selections be in a foreign language, but not required.
  • Please do not submit electronic auditions using a handheld microphone as it does not give faculty a clear idea of a student's capabilities.
  • We understand that recording technology may vary greatly from student to student. We encourage you to use whatever technology you have to make your recordings. Please do not submit materials that have undergone significant editing or modification.

We will begin reviewing virtual auditions in early September. At that time, you may click HERE to submit your audition electronically.
