Muhlenberg’s anthropology and sociology programs share the same department. This expands both programs’ offerings while providing distinct opportunities for students in each program.

A group of students take notes while someone speaks with them, binoculars around his shoulder, outdoors.

The Anthropology Program explores all four fields of American Anthropology: anthropological archeology, cultural anthropology, biological anthropology (human evolution) and linguistic anthropology. This allows you to tailor your studies to your interests.

Ample opportunities for experiential learning deepen your knowledge and develop professional skills. You might travel to nearby field sites to learn how local history has shaped modern ecology. You might collect and analyze ethnographic data, make stone tools, or study copies of human, ape and fossil skeletons. Or you could participate in the Muhlenberg Integrative Learning Abroad (MILA) program, which offers short-term travel abroad opportunities that bring your studies alive.
