Finding Your Nucleotide Sequence

This database contains nucleotide sequences from an international collection of sequence databases obtained from the National Center for Biotechnology Information's (NCBI) GenBank, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), and the DNA Database of Japan (DDBJ). The number of nucleotide bases available to be searched is updated daily and grows exponentially doubling approximately every 14 months. Currently, the database contains more than 11 billion bases from over 100,000 species. Be sure to check out the most recent number of nucleotide bases in the database by looking at the number displayed in the yellow box on the Entrez Nucleotide search screen

Accessing information already provided by other scientists can save months of work. After isolating an sequence, scientists can instantly compare it to the database of known sequences to gain clues about the identity or function of their gene. Using this information scientists can better determine the best way to proceed with their research.

This database allows you to find the nucleotide sequence of your gene of interest. Keep in mind that not all sequences are available yet, there is still a lot to be discovered!
