Abrar Shamim ’20 to Join Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital M.D.-Integrated Program

Shamim, who earned a D.D.S. from the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, will obtain an M.D. from Harvard and serve as a general and oral and maxillofacial surgery resident at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Abrar Shamim ’20, a prehealth biology major at Muhlenberg, recently matched into a six-year M.D.-integrated program in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. This program will allow him to obtain an M.D. from Harvard in addition to serving as a general and oral and maxillofacial surgery resident at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

The liberal arts education at Muhlenberg has had a profoundly positive impact on my growth as an individual, learner, and to-be oral and maxillofacial surgeon.”

At Muhlenberg, Shamim conducted research with Associate Professor of Biology Giancarlo Cuadra. He also participated in the Muhlenberg Integrative Learning Abroad (MILA) program to Bangladesh, which sparked his career interest in global work. Shamim was a Dana Scholar and recipient of the Henry Melchior Muhlenberg Scholarship. Graduating summa cum laude in 2020, he continued his academic journey at Columbia University, earning a D.D.S. from the College of Dental Medicine and an M.A. in education from the Teachers College.
