Muhlenberg faculty, staff, students and student organizations may post signs and notices on campus as permitted under this Posting of Signs and Notices Policy.  Posting is inclusive of, but not limited to, signs on bulletin boards, banners, chalking on sidewalks, signs on College provided stakes and yard signs on Academic Row and banners.

Signs, notices and banners may be posted or hung in authorized areas only.   Posting is prohibited on doors, painted walls and surfaces, windows, railings or handrails, and on steps, in any College owned buildings.

Posting or hanging of notices on trees, building exteriors, light posts, etc., except where specifically authorized is prohibited. Notices posted in residence halls and academic buildings must be affixed to designated bulletin boards only, and are not permitted on any painted surfaces, entrance or fire doors, or windows.

All postings must include clear contact information for the sponsoring Muhlenberg faculty, staff, student or student organization. For individuals, this must include name AND phone number or Muhlenberg email address. For recognized student organizations or College departments, the student organization or department name is sufficient. If postings do not meet this requirement, they can be removed.

Commercial advertisements will be permitted only on the general use bulletin boards within Seegers Union, so long as they follow the guidelines set forth in this Policy and the College’s Solicitation/Fundraising Policy.

Postings may not:

  • Endorse, criticize or advocate for or against a political candidate. Please see the Partisan Political Activity Policies for more information.
  • Promote or condone behavior that violates College policies and/or values, or local, state or federal law.
  • Include content that is objectively offensive.
  • Encourage/promote the sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages to underage persons, illegal drugs, tobacco or gambling.

In the event of any inconsistency or conflict between this Policy and the Student Organization Policies and Procedural Manual, the provisions and requirements of this Policy shall control and be enforced.

The College reserves the right to remove all postings that are not in alignment with College policy or the values of Muhlenberg College. Permission to post under this Policy does not imply College endorsement of the contents of any posting. The College may require any Sponsor of a posting to modify a posting if there is an implication of College endorsement and/or to state that there is no College endorsement of such posting.
