Deadline to apply: April 15, 2024

Summer 2024

Thanks to the generous donations from Media & Communication faculty, friends, and alumni, we are pleased to announce information for the 2024 Media & Communication Alumni Internship Tuition Scholarship. This tuition scholarship has been established to provide financial support to students who might otherwise find it difficult to pay for summer course credit, which some internships require. Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria and have produced a compelling personal statement in which they outline their reasoning for pursuing their internship.

This tuition scholarship does not guarantee the internship itself: students are responsible for finding and completing the internship, and they must be eligible to earn internship credit according to the College’s rules. Application submission does not guarantee an award: this is a competitive process.

Deadline to apply: Applications must be received no later than April 15, 2024 in order to be considered. Applications will be blind reviewed by a committee of Department faculty, with successful applicants announced by the first week in May.

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time Muhlenberg student for the 2024-2025 academic year and in good academic and social standing
  • Applicants must be rising juniors or seniors
  • Applicants must be Media & Communication major or Film Studies majors/minors
  • Applicants’ internships can be paid or unpaid, but must require college credit
  • Applicants must enroll in COM 960 for the summer 2024, successfully complete the internship, and fulfill all course requirements for credit

Review Criteria:

All applications will be reviewed by a committee of Media & Communication faculty according to the following criteria:

  • Intentionality: demonstration of consistent and committed desire to pursue a summer opportunity that meets the student’s short and long-term goals.
  • Relevance of experience: the summer internship opportunity speaks to the stated goals of the Department of Media & Communication.
  • Note: special consideration will be given to applicants pursuing summer internships that are explicitly engaged with social justice work.
  • Need: the applicant’s financial need will be taken into consideration.

Expectations:

By the start of the fall semester, award recipients will submit a report describing their internship experience. This report in whole or in part may be shared with the Muhlenberg and Media and Communication community (online, Muhlenberg College newspaper, publications to alumni, etc.)
