Mark Smiley, Co-Chair, Staff

Mark Smiley is a founding member of the LGBTQ+ Faculty and Staff Collective at Muhlenberg College and serves as one of the co-chairs for the organization. Along with the rest of the executive committee, Mark provides leadership and works to set the advocacy agenda of the Collective, working closely with other campus units to improve the experiences of LGBTQ+ professionals on campus.
In addition to his work with the Collective, Mark also serves as the assistant director of multicultural life and the LGBT coordinator at the college. He can be reached at [email protected]. Prior to coming to Muhlenberg, Mark served in a number of roles within multicultural affairs and social justice oriented organizations, including Virginia Tech and the University of California, Berkeley. He is interested in the intersections of queer identity, race and class, and is deeply invested in the creation of more equitable organizational structures within higher education.
