Reserving Studio Space

Procedures for Students Hoping
to Reserving Theatre & Dance Studios

updated Sept. 14, 2023

INTRODUCTION

Muhlenberg’s Theatre & Dance Department is home to eight studio spaces all throughout our campus. When these spaces are not being used for class meetings, department production rehearsals, or community dance classes, they are made available for reservation by Theatre & Dance community members. Please review this document to learn more about our studios, the studio reservation process, and how to care for T&D spaces!

WHO CAN RESERVE STUDIO SPACE?

All students currently enrolled in Theatre or Dance classes may reserve department studio space for coursework preparation on a rolling, weekly basis. Reservations are not just limited to Theatre & Dance majors!

Students enrolled in Theatre & Dance classes hoping to work on material that does not pertain to their coursework may also request to reserve studio space. Requests from individuals who fall into this category will be accepted on an individual and rolling basis if and when possible. Reservation priority will be given to students requesting studio space to prepare for coursework — not to students working on independent projects.

Student club and organization representatives looking for rehearsal or meeting space must email [email protected] and request to set up a meeting where they will discuss reservation needs and look at studio availability together. While we cannot guarantee availability for clubs and organizations, we are happy to explore the possibility. Reservation priority will be given to students requesting studio space to prepare for coursework — not to clubs/organizations.

Student clubs and organizations should NOT fill out the reservation request form!

WHICH STUDIOS ARE AVAILABLE FOR RESERVATION?

The Theatre & Dance Department houses both dedicated theatre studios and dedicated dance studios, a majority of which are available for reservation when not in use for department purposes.

Learn more about our studios here and review a list of them below:

Dedicated Theatre Studios Available for Reservation:

  • First Floor Rehearsal Hall (Trexler Pavilion First Floor)
  • Rehearsal House 201
  • Rehearsal House Small Studio
  • Studio 22

Dedicated Dance Studios Available for Reservation:

  • Dance Studio Theatre (Trexler Pavilion First Floor)
  • Upper Level Dance Studio (Trexler Pavilion Third Floor)

Dedicated Theatre & Tap Dance Studio Available for Reservation:

  • Center for the Arts 226/Tap Box (Center for the Arts)

Brown Dance Studio is not available for students to reserve under any circumstances due to its distance from the Theatre & Dance offices, difficulties with climate control, and because it houses aerial equipment that can be dangerous if used unsupervised.

WHEN ARE STUDIOS OPEN FOR RESERVATION?

Our studio spaces are typically available for reservation 8 am – 11 pm daily when not in use for class meetings, production rehearsals, or other department events. Many studios are not available until after 5:00 pm on weekdays because of our course schedule. Absolutely no late night reservations will be accepted out of respect to our housekeeping schedule.

Weekly studio availability will be published here each Thursday for the following week.

HOW MUCH TIME MAY I RESERVE IN T&D STUDIOS?

Students may request to reserve up to two hours of studio time per project per week.

If you would like to request more time than this, please follow the procedures above and below! If studio space is available when you request it, we will most likely be able to make an exception to the above policy.

Note that all reservations are subject to cancellation if the studio you have reserved is needed to support department operations. If this is the case, you will be contacted with as much notice time as possible and will be offered alternative reservation options.

STUDIO CARE GUIDELINES

Please respect and care for our studios and all individuals within their walls throughout your studio time by following the guidelines below:

  • Do not expect to enter the studio you have reserved before your reservation time begins.
  • Vacate the space on time when your reservation concludes. Ensure that you end your rehearsal with enough time to clean up!
  • Think about how to ensure safety in all of your work.
  • Make note of each studio’s first aid kit location and emergency exits.
  • If you are working in a dance studio, you must remove shoes that have been worn outdoors.
  • Bring all lost items to the Trexler Pavilion Box Office lost & found, where they can be reclaimed.
  • Do not eat or drink anything other than water in studios. Clean up anything you spill!
  • Turn off all lights and studio technology upon your departure.
  • Return all rehearsal furniture if you used it.
  • Shut all doors upon your departure.

Failure to follow these guidelines will result in the revocation of your reservation privileges.
