SUNY College of Optometry 3-4 Combined Program

An agreement between Muhlenberg College and SUNY College of Optometry allows selected students to enter SUNY College of Optometry at the end of their third year of study at Muhlenberg. Transfer students are not eligible for this program. To be considered, students must:

In High School

  • Attain a minimum 93/100 high school GPA
  • Attain a combined Critical Reading/Math SAT score of 1300 (old SAT) or greater, with no less than a 670 in the Math section of the SAT; combined Evidence Based Reading and Writing/Math SAT of 1340 (SAT-R), with no less than a 700 in the Math section of the SAT-R; or ACT Composite score of 29 or greater
  • Rank in the top 10% of their high school class

At Muhlenberg

  • Maintain both an overall CUM and Science GPA of 3.3 or greater
  • Have no grades below a "C" 
  • Take the Optometry Admission Test (OAT) during the third year at Muhlenberg and attain a total Science score of at least 330 with no individual score below 320


  • Personal interview with Muhlenberg College Admissions before January 1
  • Completed freshman application to Muhlenberg College Office of Admission before January 1 of senior year
  • Completed SUNY Joint Degree Program Application before January 1 of senior year (Please note, this supplement is submitted electronically directly to SUNY Optometry. Once submitted, please also send a copy to
